Mission Statement
To deliver world‑class semiconductor strain gage solutions.
Piezo‑Metrics, Inc. has been supplying high‑quality semiconductor strain gages, pressure transducers, and temperature sensors for over four decades. Our standard semiconductor strain gages are made from “P” doped bulk silicon and have no P/N junction with the silicon etched to shape. This rigorous process eliminates potential molecular dislocation or cracks and optimizes our strain gage’s performance under demanding situations and environments. Piezo‑Metrics’ strain gages have been used in the manufacture of many different types of sensors such as load cells, torque meters, pressure transducers, accelerometers, and precision extensometers.
We also provide professional installation of strain gages on customer products along with the option of temperature compensation and calibration. Our staff of experienced engineers are experts at designing custom sensors and special strain gages to meet your unique needs.
Piezo‑Metric’s standard line of pressure transducers have corrosive‑resistant Titanium diaphragms and are available in a wide assortment of pressure ranges. Typical applications are for OEM, process control, and liquid level measurement. In addition to our standard line of Titanium transducers, Piezo‑Metrics has experience in providing sensors made of 17‑4PH CRES, 316SS, Inconel, Tantalum, Aluminum, Beryllium Copper, Invar Plastics, and others.
Dual pressure/temperature transducers, pressure transmitters with 4‑20 mA outputs, and dual pressure/temperature transmitters are available in all of the physical configurations of our standard pressure transducers. The dual sensors incorporate silicon temperature sensors manufactured by Piezo‑Metrics, which are more accurate and easier to use than thermistors. These temperature sensors can produce a 100 mV change with 5 VDC excitation between 30°F and 130°F. Our Smart Electronics provide a 0‑5 V, 0‑10 V, or 4‑20 mA signal from an unregulated source. It provides a field re‑calibration option (16 to 35 VDC) and other advantages.
Our customers are the most important people in the world to us and the Piezo‑Metrics team is standing by to assist you with your application. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or need any assistance. We look forward to serving you today!
Biographies
The team of engineers, scientists, and technicians at Piezo‑Metrics is internationally recognized for its expertise in pioneering the most advanced and reliable strain‑gage solutions available. Individually and collectively, they represent the high standard of excellence that has earned and maintained Piezo‑Metrics’ unparalleled reputation.

Herbert Chelner — Our Beloved Founder
Herb had the curiosity and passion that characterizes great scientists and engineers. After serving in the U.S. Army in the Missile Command, he pursued higher education with degrees in Chemistry, Physics, and Aeronautical Engineering (with an Electronics minor), and extensive coursework in mathematics, computer programming, and semiconductor electronics.
Herb's professional career started as an Aeronautical Engineer for the U.S. Navy, then an Instrumentation Engineer at Rocketdyne where he became a sensor expert and discovered the benefits of semiconductor strain gages. After serving as Chief Engineer at Dynasciences Corp and Vice President at Valid Data, Herb co‑founded Senso‑Metrics. In 1980, his vision of a semiconductor strain gage manufacturing business led him to acquire the assets of a previous company and incorporate as Piezo‑Metrics, Inc.
Today, Piezo‑Metrics is the world's leading supplier of semiconductor strain gages and sensor gaging services, with over 100 customers in over 40 countries. Herb was known for his keen insight in sensor design and leadership in creating world‑class sensors, including the worldwide standard sensor for monitoring solid rocket motor aging (recognized by NATO). He also played a key role in the design of one of NASA's Mars 2020 Perseverance robot sensors.
Herb passed away in March 2022. His legacy lives on as Piezo‑Metrics continues to drive innovation, technical leadership, and a strong commitment to customer satisfaction.

Robert A. Mueller, Ph.D. — CEO, Chairman of the Board
Dr. Robert Mueller brings over 40 years of experience in technical team management, engineering development, and consulting, including high‑speed parallel computers, computer operating systems, sensors, and wireless sensing communication systems. He has developed advanced wireless tracking systems for the U.S. Navy Supply Command, U.S. Navy Munitions Information Systems, and the U.S. Marine Corp Aviation Logistics Squadron, and designed the first zero‑SSD wireless sensing system deployed in live missile containers at USAFE. He has also served as an International Consultant and Wireless Sensing SME for Raytheon Missile Systems.
Dr. Mueller was technical lead for the U.S. Air Force Research Laboratory IMLM DAAS wireless sensing system and contributed to the AFRL Motor Aging and Surveillance project. He has been a U.S. appointed Technical Member of the NATO Power & Propulsion Panel, Applied Vehicle Technology, Science & Technology organization since 2007 and received the 2016 NATO Scientific Achievement Award for co‑chairing a Munitions Health Management technology demonstration at NATO Headquarters, Brussels.
Dr. Mueller is a former tenured Associate Professor of Computer Science at Colorado State University and currently serves as CEO and Chairman of the Board at Piezo‑Metrics, Inc.

Paul Kim — Transducer and Gaging Production Manager
Paul Kim has served as Production Manager for Piezo‑Metrics for over three decades, mastering sensor engineering, electronics, instrumentation, and testing. His expertise includes Wheatstone bridge temperature compensation principles, Dual Bond Stress and Temperature (DBST) sensor fabrication, wiring and packaging, and sensor pressure and temperature characterization procedures. He has balanced and temperature‑compensated hundreds of DBST sensors and client transducers, as well as thousands of MP line pressure transducers.
Paul recruits and trains production technicians and organizes gaging production schedules to meet company demand.
